Triumph Motorcycles partners with CSS once again

An initiative to train and promote safe riding amongst the motorsports enthusiasts in the country

Triumph Motorcycles India further strengthens its association with the California Superbike School (CSS) for the fourth year in a row. With the aim to make world-class motorsports skills accessible to talented enthusiasts and to equip them with the responsible and safe riding practices, Triumph Motorcycles made their Street Triple range (RS and S) available to the trainers at CSS so they could impart specialised training and skillsets to all riders attending the training.

The showstopper at CSS was the new Triumph Street Triple line-up (RS and S). These are machines that inspires complete confidence. With more power, lighter weight, and easier to ride design, Triumph engineers aimed for the simple and achieved it by creating the most perfectly balanced motorcycle.  An equal blend of torque, responsiveness, agility, poise and purpose.

The Street Triple range has won several industry awards lately and what better platform to celebrate this other than the CSS to bring out the best of both worlds, as the Street Triple is a perfect weapon for both the streets as well as the race tracks. Highly skilled track racing professionals have trained the riders using this motorcycle. Here is where the owners of the Street Triple range got to explore the best potential of their machines.

Attending the training session, Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt. Ltd., said: “Triumph has grown at a significant pace in India in the luxury motorcycle segment providing a complete riding experience. In fact, we have received an overwhelming response from our consumers and partners on our association with California Superbike School and seen CSS grow and motorsports gaining ground here in India. Petrolheads owning a superbike is becoming popular in the country so it is imperative that we make provisions for the appropriate skill sets to keep owners safe while they make the most of their motorcycles. I personally feel this is a much-needed riding school where the curriculum is designed to improve your skills on a motorcycle, which in turn makes you a better rider.”

TT Siddhartha, avid rider and the creator of CSS here in India, said: “Enthusiasm among participants has been exceptionally high. The CSS module of training rotates between theory and practical sessions. There are three students per instructor which means that you are monitored closely and given constant feedback. Riders personally come up to us and share how CSS has improved their riding techniques. I would like to extend a very warm thanks to Triumph Motorcycles India for supporting us in this special endeavour and together we hope to build this partnership stronger.”

Actor Amit Sadh, who owns a Triumph Street triple RS also attended the track training session, said: “I ride my bike regularly in Mumbai but nothing beats riding it on the race tracks just as how it is meant to be. I am thrilled to a part of this training, not just because it will improve my riding skills, especially in the motorsports space.”

The California Superbike School, recognized as the foremost motorcycle racing school in the world, operates in 27 countries around the world. It was founded by the legendary Keith Code - the best-known and most successful on-track motorcycle instructor in the world. POWERLINK now IEEE 61158 standard

Only Industrial Ethernet protocol to be adopted by IEEE

POWERLINK has been adopted by the IEEE under international standard IEEE 61158. It is the only Industrial Ethernet protocol to achieve this status. The IEEE views its standards for TSN and POWERLINK as core components for real-time industrial communication.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest professional association in its field. Among its most prominent accomplishments is the IEEE 802.3 standard commonly known as Ethernet.

The IEEE’s industrial real-time communication working group has been working for the past two years on the definition of an Industrial Ethernet standard. In March 2017, POWERLINK was adopted as the sole IEEE standard with 97% of the vote.

Unrestricted openness

“Real-time industrial communication had previously been a gap for the IEEE,” explained Dr. Victor Huang, responsible for standardization at the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) following the vote. “With its combination of high performance and unrestricted openness, POWERLINK is the perfect complement to the other IEEE communication standards.” “The adoption of POWERLINK as an IEEE standard is an important step toward standardizing industrial automation technology at the field level,” added Prof. Aleksander Malinowski, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Senior AdCom Member.

The Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG) is an independent organization founded in 2003 by leading companies from the fields of motion control and automation technology. Its aims are the standardization and further development of the POWERLINK protocol first introduced by B&R in 2001. This high-performance real-time communication system is an advanced protocol based on the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard designed to ensure real-time data transfer in the microsecond range. The EPSG cooperates with leading standardization organizations such as CAN in Automation (CiA), the OPC Foundation and the IEC.

MEYLE full-service kit complete with stabiliser assembly and coupling rods in MEYLE-HD quality

Hamburg-based manufacturer MEYLE has added another 14 MEYLE full-service solutions consisting of the stabiliser assembly and coupling rods designed in superior MEYLE-HD quality. For most of the new kits, it is the only company to supply aftermarket customers. Outshining original designs, MEYLE-HD parts offer made-to-measure technical enhancements engineered to maximise part life and streamline workshop processes.

The MEYLE full-service solution comes complete with the stabiliser assembly and coupling rods, all parts in MEYLE-HD quality, supplying repair professionals with an ideally matching set of aftermarket parts allowing them to replace defective components swiftly and easily. For added ease of installation, the stabiliser assembly comes ready to be installed and includes the mounts and, for most kits, also the retaining latches. But ease of installation is not the only engineering goal. The company is equally committed to delivering exceptional quality and durability. Most of the MEYLE stabilisers feature rubber-to-metal bonds with vulcanised mounts making them extremely durable and less vulnerable to wear thanks to their premium-grade product finish.

MEYLE stabiliser links are a manifestation of the MEYLE-HD principle. By refining individual properties, part durability is significantly increased: For example, using a larger and more robust ball head of 22 millimetres in diameter increases the surface area, resulting in reduced surface pressure given the same impact force, which in turn minimises part wear. MEYLE-HD stabiliser link stability is further improved thanks to another design detail distinguishing the MEYLE part: The ball pin snaps into a clip-on plastic socket made from wear-resistant polyoxymethylene plastic material (POM) which, thanks to its retaining latches, fits snugly into the steel housing. An additional snap ring is ultrasonically welded to the rear of the plastic socket. The result: Superior pull-out strength delivering increased durability and maximum operating safety. Relying on the advanced MEYLE design, repair professionals can confidently offer an extended four-year guarantee distinguishing not only MEYLE-HD service solutions but all products of the MEYLE-HD range.

MEYLE workshop advice: Rumbling and knocking noise in the suspension is a typical indicator of stabiliser and coupling rod wear. A defective stabiliser or coupling rod reduces driving safety and comfort and often does further damage to the suspension. Consequently, experts recommend that the coupling rods be replaced along with the stabiliser assembly.

Kögel introduces new NOVUM generation of trailers

Kögel is gradually introducing the new and reliable external frame and body already known from the Kögel Lightplus for its Cargo, Mega, and Light platform trailers. The Kögel tarpaulin semi-trailers are also receiving further optimisations as part of the new NOVUM generation. NOVUM not only introduces the new external frame and body but also the new, optimally designed Kögel modular system with optimised, uniform new modules, assemblies, and components. This enables an extremely high level of individualisation for the NOVUM generation trailers, with Kögel addressing the wide ranging requirements of the market.

NOVUM – the new Kögel trailer generation

Frame

In future, all NOVUM generation vehicles will have a sturdy, torsion-resistant welded frame with full-width cross beams for high payloads and concentrated loads. Even more stability is provided by a new, slimmer yet stronger rear cover plate as well as the new air and lighting console on the front wall, which transfers forces along the side member to the frame. The new external frame profile greatly increases the accessibility of the VarioFix lashing points, allowing the cargo to be lashed to the VarioFix perforated steel external frame with the tarpaulin closed and also in combination with the optionally available drop sides. When using belts with claw hooks, the drop sides need to be open to attach them. The drop sides can remain closed when attaching belts with flat hooks. The 13 pairs of lashing shackles included as standard are now available with grip hooks at the sides for easier handling and have a tensile force of 2,500 or 4,000 kilogrammes respectively. Naturally, all NOVUM generation trailer frames have long-term protection from corrosion thanks to the nano ceramic technology in addition to cathodic dip-paint coating with a subsequent coat of UV varnish.

Body

In the basic design, the front wall, including the front volume corner posts, the rear corner posts, and the rear wall door portal are made of aluminium. The standardisation of the corner posts with and without a lifting roof results in the following benefits. Particularly in conjunction with a lifting roof, weight savings are made. In addition to that, it is easier to position pallets along the front wall with side loading. Furthermore, all the drop side spacing is now a standard size on NOVUM generation vehicles. This means that differently sized slats are a thing of the past. The slat pockets can be arranged flexibly using a perforated profile on the corner posts and in the slat storage console. Naturally, the new semi-trailer generation also has a DIN EN 12642 Code XL load-securing certificate.

NOVUM update

Kögel is rolling out this update gradually for all Cargo, Mega, and Light variants. The Kögel Lightplus is already available. As of March, the Cargo Coil and Cargo Coil Rail will move to the NOVUM generation. Other variants of the NOVUM generation will then be available by/as of the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018.

Kögel is one of the leading trailer manufacturers in Europe. Since it was established in 1934, the company has manufactured more than 550,000 trailers.
